Neil is a regional scientist and industrial geographer with research interests in the area of local economic development. In particular he is interested in the dynamics of local economic development in cities that are located in old industrial regions of the United States. His research has been published in a range of geography and regional science journals including the Annals of the Association of American Geographers, The Professional Geographer, Annals of Regional Science, Papers in Regional Science, and Economic Development Quarterly.
